What is Number Porting?

Phone number porting is a service that allows you to transfer your existing phone number from your current phone company to netTALK.

Does netTALK charge me to port my number?

Number porting is free for netTALK customers for a limited time!

How do I port my phone number?

  1. Check to see if netTALK can port your phone number. If porting is available, continue to the next step.
  2. Do not cancel your phone service with your current carrier until your phone number successfully transfers to netTALK. When the transfer is complete, netTALK will send an e-mail notification to you letting you know that the process is complete. Some carriers may not transfer a phone number affiliated with DSL service. See Number Transfer for DSL Providers for more information.
  3. Login to your netTALK account and fill out the Number Porting Authorization (NPA) Form, which can be found by clicking on “Phone Numbers” and then “Port Number to netTALK.”
  4. Once the form is submitted, you will receive a Reference ID. This is your confirmation number for porting.

What is a Number Porting Authorization (NPA) Form?

The Number Porting Authorization (NPA) form is a formal request from netTALK to your current carrier requesting permission to transfer your number. The information on the Number Porting Authorization (NPA) must match with the information your current carrier has on file. Failure to match this information with your current carrier may delay the transfer. You can access the Number Porting Authorization (NPA) by logging in to your account at http://login.netTALK.com and navigating to “Phone Numbers” and then “Port Number to netTALK.”

How long will the number transfer take?

The number transfer takes up to 30 days from the time you complete the Number Porting Authorization (NPA). If there are any issues, netTALK will email you or call you on the contact information you have on file.
Note: Delays in the porting process can be due to:

  • Pending orders
  • Adding new features
  • Pending charges
  • Number Porting Authorization (NPA) information mismatched
  • You are overdue with a payment to your current phone company
  • Your account with your current phone company is not in good standing

How do I check the status of my transfer?

From your Online Account click on “Phone Numbers” and then “Port Number to netTALK.” A message will be posted in regards to the current status of your transfer.

Do I have to pay for my current service and for netTALK service?

Yes. You must pay your current carrier to keep your porting number active for a successful transfer. Most carriers will not transfer a number that does not have a dial tone when tested.

You can use the netTALK service as soon as you install your netTALK DUO and register your account - so don't wait to use it! In order for the number porting to complete, the phone number must be ported to an active netTALK account.

Can I use my netTALK service while I transfer my number to netTALK?

Yes. Simply install and activate your netTALK DUO and immediately start saving on phone calls! A Temporary netTALK Number will be assigned to you.

What is a Temporary netTALK Number?

A Temporary netTALK Number is given to you to use while your number is being transferred so you can begin using the netTALK service as soon as you install your netTALK DUO.
